Shift Recycling
A free e-waste/recycling program: Shift Recycling. All e-waste collected is safely dismantled and recycled at the certified ‘Shift’ facility in Brampton. Collected material is tracked, weighed and a certificate is issued confirming the exact weight diverted from landfill. Anything that can be plugged in or is battery powered from the office or home can be recycled. Exceptions would be light bulbs, medical/lab equipment and some industrial electronics. Accepted items are: laptops, monitors, printers, fax machines, toners/ink cartridges, batteries...and many more. The Shift program comes complete with cages and receptacles in each of our loading bays, signage, in addition to small, desktop battery collection bins available for tenant suites.
Waste Collection and Disposal
Removal of garbage from Tenant premises is carried out nightly Monday to Friday by the cleaning staff. All waste receptacles from desks, lunchrooms, kitchenettes, etc. are emptied nightly and brought down to the loading area for compacting. Cardboard should be flattened and bundled. Please clearly mark all waste not placed in usual containers as "Garbage". Stickers are available upon request.
The Rocket Composter
MEC has become the first office complex in Mississauga to invest in the organic composter called the Rocket Composter.
Originally from the United Kingdom, this sophisticated equipment is a hygienic, sustainable system which reduces carbon emissions by eliminating the need for waste disposal transportation. Inside the vessel of the Rocket Composter organic material can transform into high quality compost in only 14 days. As food waste is collected from tenant premises, it is put into a macerator which breaks down the material and extracts the oils and grease. The material is then transferred into the Rocket where an auger mechanism combined with heat, breaks the material down and after 10-14 days, nutritious compost is produced and put back into MEC landscaping.
